The Crash Zone

Crash Reconstruction Features

Since 1991, thousands of Accident Reconstructionists have made The Crash Zone their program of choice for drawing crash scenes. These users aren't shy about telling us what they want added to the program and thanks to their ideas, many new features have been added that will help you get your job done faster and easier. These are practical tools that anyone can quickly learn to use, not just something good for a sales presentation. Not only is The Crash Zone great for drawing simple 2D crash scenes, it's also ideal for doing the most detailed, to-scale reconstruction drawings that you will be proud to display in a courtroom.

Reconstructionists will love the new features added in Crash Zone Version 9! Check out the Version 9 "What's New" page to learn more.

crit-speed-toolboxNew in V9! Critical Speed Yaw Calculator Determine critical speed of a selected arc or curve using either the Fixed Chord, Dynamic Chord, or ADPC Method. If you use the Critical Speed Calculator on a curve, the curve is divided into eight sections and the critical speed is performed for each section. This gives you the opportunity to compare critical speed values at different sections of the curve.

Multi-surface Skid Analysis -Calculate pre- and post-impact speeds based on the length of skid marks in the diagram, even across multiple surfaces with varying coefficients of friction. Skid length measurements are automatically inserted into the combined formula when tire marks are selected from your scaled diagram.

Momentum Angles -Determine approach and departure angles of vehicles using the Momentum Angles toolbox. An intuitive toolbox shows you just how to do it!

Select Exact Vehicle Specs - Use the Vehicle Database to obtain exact weights, wheelbase, and other specifications, automatically populating the correct fields in the toolbox.

New in V9! TDS AIMS Compatible - Users of Nikon total stations with an on-board data collector can now download data directly into Crash Zone Version 9.

Momentum Calculator - Plug the results of the Skid Analysis and the Momentum Angles toolbox into the new Momentum Calculator to determine vehicle speeds at impact.

Combined Speed Toolbox -Use the results of the Skid Analysis and the Momentum Calculator to calculate a vehicle's speed at the beginning of a skid.

Once you have created an accurate diagram, use it to obtain the data needed for standard
crash reconstruction calculations. For example, you can calculate vehicle speeds
at impact with the Momentum Calculator (shown above).

One Click 3D! Automatically convert your 2D diagrams to 3D models - complete with 3D symbols, line types, text and dimensions! View the scene from any angle, show 3D surfaces, align symbols to a surface, pose 3D bodies, show bullet trajectories, and more! Click here to learn more!

Vehicle Crush Calculator - The Crush Toolbox lets you calculate the energy and the equivalent barrier speed from vehicle crush damage data using the 2/4/6 point crush measurement method. It also creates a graphical crush model from the data which you can place back into your diagram.

New in V9! Aerial Views From Bing Maps - A single mouse click gives you access to the powerful Bing™ mapping system, from Microsoft.® Enter an address or name of a facility and Bing retrieves a recent satellite photograph. Place the photo in your diagram as a background and draw on top of it. You can even place photographs on vertical surfaces, to show signs and building facades.

Profile Generator - Quickly create a profile view of a 3D cross section. Show cross sections of any road. Ideal for showing line-of-sight.

Slope Calculator -Automatically calculate horizontal distance, angle, slope distance, percent of slope, and degree of slope between any two points.

Import images - Bring in aerial photographs and photographs from digital cameras. Place photos anywhere in your diagrams to show vehicle damage, body positions, and evidence. Draw and place labels on top of the image.

100+ Automatic line types - Make any line, arc, or curve into a 3D railroad track, culvert, trajectory, fence, skidmark, Jersey barrier, or guard rail. Choose from 100 line types!

Powerful Import features -Save and load drawings in .dxf and AutoCAD® .dwg file formats. Bring in diagrams of intersections from your city or county!

Easy Templates - Predrawn templates of streets and inter-sections. Just drop them into place and add your vehicles. You can also create and save your own templates of intersections in your area and share them with other Crash Zone users. This saves many hours of drawing time!

"I've tried some other programs, but this one is the best.
I would not want to do my job without The Crash Zone!"
Sgt. Jill Simmons, New Bedford PD

Fast Intersections! The Easy Intersection Toolbox lets you create complex intersections with just a few mouse clicks. Select from 10 basic intersection shapes, then add up to 20 lanes in each street! You can also change lane widths and centerline types. Just click to add turn bays, medians, bus turnouts, crosswalks, street names, and more.

Vehicle Specifications Database - Obtain vehicle specifications and a to-scale outline for most vehicles by selecting them from an industry-standard database. The outline is drawn to exact specifications for length, width, center of mass, wheelbase, front and rear overhang. Easily stretch any of the detailed, 3D vehicle symbols to have the same size as the outline. (Specifications based on the Canadian Vehicle Specifications, as published by the Canadian Assoc. of Road Safety Professionals, CARSP.)

Get 3D data from Lasers! Shoot your points and bring them in to create completely accurate, 3D drawings. Import data from Laser Technology equipment and most total stations made by Topcon, Sokkia, Nikon, Leica and more.

Compatible With Pocket Zone, Data Collection Software - Use Pocket Zone to control your total station and record all the measurements. Bring in that 3D data to create the finished drawing. Pocket Zone lets you preview your drawing at the scene. When you leave, you'll know you collected all the necessary measurements! Click here to learn more!
