For years, fire departments have used First Look Pro to organize and access all their critical pre-incident planning information. But that information is not very helpful until you first find your way to the incident! Now you can use First Look Pro Map, with its GPS technology, to show you how to get there and display the progress of your vehicle as you move towards the incident. A separate Map Designer application is included so you can easily incorporate maps and make them work for you. The GPS receiver is included with First Look Pro Map!

Here's how it works in the truck

  1. Start First Look Pro and look up an address.
  2. If a map is available for that address, a globe icon will appear on the screen. Click on the globe to switch to view the map.
  3. As soon as the GPS receiver (included with First Look Pro Map) starts to send valid data, a vehicle symbol is displayed on the map. This represents your current location, relative to the location of the incident.
  4. As you drive, the map is instantly updated to show your vehicle's progress towards the incident.
  5. You can allow the map to zoom in automatically as you get closer to the incident, or you can manually zoom in to see more of the map's details, such as street names.

Here's what you do at the station

  1. Get your ESRI map layer data files from your city or county GIS department and copy them to your computer.
  2. Use the First Look Pro Map Designer program to change the look of the maps to be the way you want them.
  3. Change map layer colors, line style, fill style, font style, font size, and more.
  4. Define when each map layer is to be displayed so details like street names do not come on too soon and cover up the map.
  5. Use the Verify Address feature in First Look Pro to add latitude and longitude values to all of your building addresses so they can be located on the map.
  6. Take Designer out on the road and record some routes so you can play them back in the station. This lets you verify that your maps are exactly the way you want them!
  7. Copy your map layer files and First Look Pro Map preferences file to your mobile computers so they are ready to use in the truck.
