The Police Chief magazine, "Spotlight on Computer Imaging," Lois Pilant, May 1999, pages 56-60.

Excerpt:

"If a picture really is worth a thousand words, then images can be a priceless and powerful law enforcement tool... They provide another tool to make police officers more effective and more efficient."

"The drawing software that can be bundled with an imaging system such as these (total station systems) can also be purchased separately and used with measurements that have been taken manually. The Crime Zone, a drawing program sold by The CAD Zone,...lets detectives spruce up an otherwise bland line drawing, adding trees where they’re supposed to be, as well as shrubs, buildings, people, evidence, and vehicles. It also includes the capability to draw a crime scene from inside a building: investigators can create a structure identical to the one in which the crime took place and add bodies, weapons, furniture and other types of evidence."

"Departments have saved hundreds of hours as a result of these systems. When an accident occurs, they need only shoot the points of the crashed vehicles, the skids and evidence. The drawings are printed on a plotter (or printer), which can run them out on everything from regular paper to large poster-sized prints that can be used in court.
