Crash Zone - What's new

Version 8.5 is here! Get it while it's HOT!

The new Crash Zone and Crime Zone are filled with all the new and improved features you have asked about, like incredible new Animation Tools, a new 3D Body Poser, Skid Analysis and Momentum Calculation tools, a 3D Stair Builder, Vehicle Database, and much more!

Body Poser Toolbox

Amazing New Body Poser! The new Body Poser helps you get exactly the right pose! You can accuratly represent the body found at the scene.

Select gender, height, and a basic pose, such as running or sitting. Drag each joint and limb to the desired position. Change skin color and clothes color. 3D viewing tools let you view the body from any side before placing. Bodies can easily be edited after being placed. Save poses to use again later.

New Crash Reconstruction Calculation Tools! Now you can perform basic crash reconstruction calculations right in The Crash Zone. You can determine critical speed of any arc or curve. Use the multi-surface Skid Analysis tool to calculate pre- and post-impact speeds, determine approach and departure angles of vehicles using the Momentum Angles toolbox, select vehicles from the Vehicle Database and plug the results into the new Momentum Calculator to determine vehicle speeds at impact. The Combined Speed Toolbox uses the results of the Skid Analysis and the Momentum Calculator to calculate a vehicle's speed at the beginning of a skid. Click here to learn more!

Create 2D and 3D Animations -The new Animation tools make it easy to show the 2D or 3D motion of any symbols in your diagrams. Just draw the path of the symbols that you want to put in motion, based on the measurements you took at the scene (vehicles, people, bullets, cows, whatever!). Place Key Event Points to show where changes in velocity and rotation occur, then watch the movie. You can synchronize the animation of up to 4 objects and set a "wait time" at any Key Event Point (KEP). The KEP Manager now has a built in preview of the animation with editable data so you can see your changes instantly. It’s the easiest way to create accurate animations of crime and crash scenes!

Easy Vehicle Database! Now you can place vehicle specifications and a scaled outline for most vehicles by selecting them from an industry-standard database. The outline is drawn to exact specifications for length, width, center of mass, wheelbase, front and rear overhang. Use this data to scale the 3D vehicle symbols, providing you with an accurate representation. You can even choose to place the specifications in the drawing next to the symbol. (Specifications are based on the Canadian Vehicle Specifications as published posted by the Canadian Assoc. of Road Safety Professionals, CARSP.)

Easy Vehical Database

3D Object Length Tool - Automatically measure and label the length (true 3D length) of any object (arcs, curves, circles, lines, and polygons) selected in the diagram.

Many New 3D symbols! Including accurate cars, SUVs, farm equipment, aircraft, vehicle seats, end caps for guardrails, boat trailers, and more.

Create Movies – Now you can turn your animations into an industry-standard.AVI file and played on most movie players. You can also copy .AVI files to a DVD and play them on a TV.

"This software is extremely useful for collision reconstruction and court presentations. I was able to generate impressive results with minimal training. 3D is our primary tool for jury presentations and the new Crime Zone 3D makes simple Events look very professional!"
Investigator Michael Thompson, Walla Walla PD (WA)

Crush Calculator -Use the new Vehicle Crush Calculator to determine the energy and the equivalent barrier speed from vehicle crush damage data using the 2pt / 4pt / 6pt crush calculation method. The dialog also creates a graphical crush model from the data entered that you can place into your diagram.

aerial photograph crash scene

Bring in Aerial Photos!Digital photographs, aerial and satellite images can now be displayed in your 2D and 3D diagrams. Place labels, line work, vehicles, and other 3D symbols onto aerial images. You can even place photographs on vertical surfaces, like walls. Use this feature to show things like signs and building facades

Coordinate Manual Entry Tool - This new tool greatly speeds upthe process of entering coordinates for measurements - including Z elevation. Open the Coordinate Manual Entry tool and simply enter the three values separated by a comma, then press the Enter key or Apply button. If you don't enter a Z value the program will assume Z = 0.

Stair Builder New 3D Stair and Ramp Builder! Create accurate 3D stairways, ramps, and ladders with this amazing new toolbox.

Choose from five pre-drawn templates to get you started. Enter the exact values for rise, tread, width, and number of stairs, or enter the overall length and height of the entire stair way. Add railings, change colors, assign an elevation. Use the 3D viewing tools to view your stairway from any angle.

More Powerful Easy Intersection!
Just point and click to create complex intersections with up to 20 lanes in each road segment. Use simple check boxes to add turn lanes, medians, cross walks, bus turn outs, and more!
Easy Intersection

New 3D Line-types for culverts, trajectories, 3D berms, Jersey barriers, barrier terminals, sand barrels, reflectors, and more.

Improved Mouse Navigation - Pan and Zoom around your diagram with the mouse scroll wheel. Even works in 3D!

All New 3D Smooth Shading! Now your 3D images will look more realistic than ever with our new smooth shading technology! New options allow you to choose the type of rendering and lighting control you want to use so you get the best possible image.

New Incremental File Save and Backup - Multiple versions of your diagram can be saved so,
in case of an emergency, you can always go back to the best one. Your diagram file is also saved automatically for you!

Critical Speed Calculator – Determine critical speed of a selected arc or curve. Curves are divided into eight sections and the critical speed is performed for each section so you can compare them.

There are so many more improvements in Version 8.5,
you have to see it to believe it!
